NGS basics
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a technique that copies a specific DNA sequence exponentially through repeated temperature cycles.
Each cycle doubles the target in theory. In practice the reaction eventually runs out of reagents and plateaus, which is where most PCR artifacts originate.
